The elegant San Rafael Placemat is handwoven on the traditional backstrap loom by weavers in Rabinal. Weaving on the backstrap loom, a painstaking process, connects Mayan weavers to their ancestors and represents the continuation and preservation of their traditional cultural and way of life.
Each side of the placemat features intricately woven brocade accents, similar to those that are worn in the intricate huipiles(blouses) worn by women in their community. This placemat coordinates with our popular San Rafael Table Runners and Coasters. Sold individually.
