In Solidarity

“We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., "Letters from a Birmingham Jail"

We mourn the death of George Floyd and the many Black Americans before him at the hands of the police. We stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and the struggle of Black Americans to achieve equal rights and opportunities.

In adding our voices to those across the globe demanding racial justice and human rights for all individuals, we press for structural change. As a fair trade nonprofit, Mayan Hands is dedicated to providing opportunities for marginalized indigenous people in Guatemala so that they can lift their families and communities out of the extreme poverty, racism, and oppression they have suffered for the past 500 years. The fair trade movement seeks to transform economic, political, and social systems that oppress into those that assure social justice and human dignity.

At this inflection point of tremendous tragedy and incredible possibility, we believe that the better world we all yearn for is possible if each one of us commits to learning and taking action so that we are part of the solution instead of silent bystanders. We are committed to the collaborative work of bringing this new world to life.
